Access your Hay Stack Faster - Without Compromising your Tarp

If you’re using hay regularly to feed stock that’s stored in stack under a tarp, the biggest challenge isn’t covering it - it’s accessing it regularly without undoing all your hard work.

Done wrong, you end up disturbing the seal, letting weather in, and wasting time re-tying everything.

Done right, you can open and reseal your stack in minutes - without compromising protection.

The key:
Set up your tarp so you only ever open a small, controlled section - while the rest stays fully sealed and weatherproof.

Most stacks are secured with ropes, star pickets, or weighted hems. These methods are excellent for long-term protection, but they’re not designed for frequent access.

The fix:
Convert the front face into a quick-access point. Instead of permanent securing methods use heavy-duty rubber tarp straps and hooks (bungees) anchoring to ground or anchors such as simple weights like tyres. This allows you to open the stack quickly without disturbing the rest.

How to Access your Hay Quickly

Create a controlled opening

  • For narrow stacks (1 bale wide): open the full front

  • For wider stacks: fold one corner diagonally over the top

This gives you a small, triangular opening for wider stacks or front access for narrow stacks - just enough to grab what you need without exposing the entire stack.

How to reseal properly

  • Pull it back down cleanly
Make sure the tarp sits flat—no wrinkles, no water pockets

  • Reconnect your weights
    Reattach bungees and weights securely

  • Keep it tight
A taut tarp prevents wind damage and extends lifespan

The result:
Faster feeding, less hassle, and a tarp system that actually works with you - not against you.
