With harvest approaching, now is a good time to take a look at your grain storage area and make sure everything is ready to go before the grain starts coming in.
A well-prepared grain pad can make a big difference when you're under pressure at harvest. A few simple checks now can help avoid problems later.
Here are a few things worth checking:
Is Your Grain Pad Harvest-Ready?

Is the pad level and well compacted?
A firm, well-prepared surface provides a better foundation for your grain bunker and helps minimise issues during filling and outloading. It also provides a good base for your ground sheet and can help prevent unnecessary damage.

Is drainage adequate?
Water needs somewhere to go. Check that the pad and surrounding area are able to drain effectively, particularly after recent rain.

Is there enough room around the bunker?
Allowing sufficient space for trucks, loaders and other equipment can make filling and outloading much easier.

Are your bunker covers and ground sheets ready?
It’s worth checking your existing covers for wear, damage or deterioration and making sure you have everything you need before harvest begins.
Taking the time to check your pad now can help ensure you're ready when harvest begins.
