The Challenge
Randwick City Council sought to install a high-quality shade solution over the Heffron Park Netball Courts to provide all-weather protection for the widely used recreational space.
Following the successful installation of an 80-metre-long barrel vault structure at Heffron Park in 2020, council engaged Ellis & Sons Group once again to explore options for this large-scale project.
With nearly two years of planning and preliminary works, the project was ultimately awarded to Statewide Civil, with Ellis & Sons Group subcontracted to design, engineer, fabricate, and install the shade structure.
The challenge was to create a durable, long-lasting structure that would ensure full coverage of the courts while seamlessly integrating with the existing site conditions.
The Solution
Ellis & Sons Group worked closely with Randwick City Council and Statewide Civil to deliver a tailored shade solution that met the project’s specific requirements. The final design featured a robust 18-post barrel vault structure measuring 36m x 59m, large enough to cover three full netball courts.
Engineered with a waterproof PVC membrane, the structure provides year-round protection from the elements, ensuring uninterrupted use of the courts in sun, rain, or even hail. The addition of lighting further enhances usability, allowing for safe and comfortable play both during the day and at night.
By managing the custom design, fabrication, and installation in-house, Ellis & Sons Group ensured a seamless process, delivering a high-quality result that exceeded expectations.
The Outcome
The completion of the Heffron Park Netball Court shade structure stands as a testament to Randwick City Council’s commitment to enhancing community spaces. The structure not only offers sun-safe protection but also transforms the netball courts into a true all-seasons facility.
With another successful project completed, Ellis & Sons Group remains the trusted choice for high-quality shade solutions of any size.
