The Challenge
Outside of harvest, Geoff uses his truck and dog combination to cart gravel and rock. During harvest, however, those same trailers are needed to transport grain. His existing retractable tarp system had reached the end of its service life. The tarp was worn, no longer sealing properly and was allowing water in, making it unsuitable for grain during wet weather. |
The Solution
Because a retractable tarp carries the support bows with the tarp as it opens, the trailer body is left completely clear for loading. This makes retractable systems the preferred option for operators who regularly transport larger aggregates.
To give Geoff the best of both worlds, Ellis & Sons Group manufactured a new custom retractable tarp system specifically for his operation.
The new tarps were manufactured using waterproof materials and incorporated an extended side block, allowing the tarp to sit further down the sides of the trailer for improved weather sealing. The tarps were also fitted waterproof rear flaps, which can be secured during wet weather to create a fully enclosed load when transporting grain.
The Outcome
The result is a trailer combination that can comfortably handle heavy rock and gravel for much of the year, then quickly transition into reliable grain transport during harvest without compromising load protection.
By tailoring the tarp system to suit Geoff's operation, we were able to provide a practical solution that increases the versatility of his equipment while protecting both his loads and his investment.
